Mechanical Project Engineer
Overview
In this position, you will be asked to lead the development and execution of capital projects ranging in size, covering various processes and utilities with in our manufacturing site. The Project Mechanical Engineer will provide mechanical engineering expertise, manage project lifecycles, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and food manufacturing standards. This role also supports day-to-day operations by upgrading, modifying, or purchasing equipment, resolving root causes of equipment issues, and contributing continuous improvement and safety initiatives. The role requires collaboration with plant functions and the corporate engineering team to ensure successful project implementation.
Key Ingredients
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise for all aspects of assigned capital projects.
- Develop and implement dare engineering standards.
- Lead conceptual design, scoping, detailed design, tendering, estimating, installation, and testing.
- Ensure safety, quality, and food manufacturing standards are integrated into project execution.
- Prepare equipment/system proposals, resolve technical design issues, and manage procurement.
- Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Testing with equipment suppliers.
- Develop commissioning, qualification, and verification plans, including training and documentation.
- Maintain and update layout drawings and P&IDs.
- Provide technical support for in-service equipment and systems.
- Optimize operation and maintenance procedures and develop training programs.
- Identify and plan capital projects to improve manufacturing operations and strategic goals.
- Support plant operations with troubleshooting, equipment upgrades, and safety initiatives.
Recipe for Success
- A degree or diploma in related engineering field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrable experience in delivering capital projects.
- Ability to interpret engineering schematics and P&IDs.
- Working knowledge of industrial safety regulations(e.g. PSHSR, CSA, Z432/34).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including MS Project and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Technically capable hands-on, and not limited to desk work.
- Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
- Driven, approachable, and passionate about engineering.
- Experience in the food, beverage or pharmaceutical industry.
Additional Assets
- Registration as P.Eng with PEO.
- PMP Certification.
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC codes.
