Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Repair Technician to maintain, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on plastic injection molds. The ideal candidate will ensure tooling is operating at peak performance by inspecting, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairing molds while minimizing production downtime. This role works closely with Process Engineers and Production to maintain high-quality tooling and support efficient manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on plastic injection molds.
  • Read and interpret tooling work orders and follow repair instructions accurately.
  • Safely disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, and reassemble molds and mold components, including cavities, cores, slides, vents, guide pins, and ejector pins.
  • Inspect tooling for wear, damage, and dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore micrometers, and other inspection tools.
  • Troubleshoot mold-related issues and work with Process Engineers to improve tooling performance.
  • Support production by repairing molds in the press to reduce machine downtime.
  • Maintain tooling inventory and assist with component stock management.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records using the company's maintenance system.
  • Maintain tool room equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade school or technical education is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in plastic injection mold repair or mold maintenance.
  • At least 3 years of experience using manual tool room equipment.
  • Experience with prototype tooling or plastic injection molding processes is an asset.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of plastic injection molds, mold components, and mold maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair tooling issues effectively.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read tooling drawings, work orders, and technical documentation.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
