Mechanical Lead / Millwright / Toolmaker

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Lead / Millwright / Toolmaker to join our team and support the assembly, integration, commissioning, and installation of industrial tooling and automated equipment.

The successful candidate will have strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting skills, with experience working with pneumatic systems, automated cells, industrial machinery, and tooling. This role requires the ability to read technical drawings, perform equipment adjustments, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, and work independently to complete projects on schedule.

The position will also involve travel to customer sites for equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and start-up support. Strong communication and customer-facing skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, and assembly instructions to plan and execute equipment builds.
• Assemble and fit up industrial tooling, automated cells, machinery, and mechanical subassemblies according to customer specifications.
• Perform mechanical assembly, alignment, fitting, adjustment, and modification of tooling and automated equipment.
• Make tooling and equipment adjustments during builds and commissioning to ensure proper functionality and product quality.
• Install and integrate pneumatic, electrical, and electronic components into automated systems.
• Design, assemble, install, and troubleshoot pneumatic systems and components.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment during assembly, testing, and commissioning.
• Assist with or independently complete control panel builds and equipment integration.
• Install industrial electrical systems, including conduit, cable tray, instrumentation, controls, lighting, transformers, robotics, and weld cabling, as required.
• Test equipment and automated systems to verify functionality, safety, quality, and performance.
• Participate in equipment decommissioning, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
• Travel to customer facilities to complete equipment installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service work.
• Complete projects independently while maintaining established project schedules and quality standards.
• Order required parts and materials and maintain accurate job material records.
• Complete work orders, service documentation, and project updates using computerized systems.
• Review completed work with Project Managers and ensure equipment meets customer specifications and project requirements.
• Communicate professionally with customers, project teams, vendors, and internal departments.
• Follow all company and customer health and safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Millwright 443A or Tool & Die/Toolmaker 430A certification preferred.
• 5–10 years of relevant industrial experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical assembly, fitting, and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience working with industrial automation, tooling, machinery, or automated cells.
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and BOMs.
• Hands-on experience with pneumatic systems; pneumatic design experience is an asset.
• Experience with electrical components, controls, instrumentation, or control panel assembly is an asset.
• Experience with robotics and automated equipment is an asset.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to make precise equipment/tooling adjustments.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple project requirements.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
