Process Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Process Technician II – Complex (Bi-Injection) to support advanced injection molding operations on the 2nd shift. This role is responsible for setting up, optimizing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex multi-shot and multi-cavity injection molding processes.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with bi-injection/2-shot molding, complex tooling, plastic materials, process parameters, robotics, and auxiliary equipment. The role will focus on achieving first-time quality, minimizing scrap and downtime, supporting production requirements, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complete and accurate setups of multi-shot and multi-cavity injection molds, including loading approved process programs.
  • Verify and connect hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, cooling, and water systems according to process documentation.
  • Manage and optimize shot size balance, material transfer timing, mold rotation, indexing, and transfer mechanisms.
  • Troubleshoot common injection molding defects, including short shots, flash, sink marks, warpage, delamination, poor adhesion, and flow imbalance.
  • Follow systematic troubleshooting procedures and stop production when nonconforming material is identified.
  • Install, configure, calibrate, and remove robots and auxiliary equipment, including thermolators and hot runner controllers.
  • Work closely with Process Engineers on process development, optimization, cycle-time reduction, scrap reduction, and process stability.
  • Support mold cleaning activities, including dry ice blasting and application of appropriate mold release agents.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to molding technicians and production staff.
  • Coordinate with schedulers, material handlers, quality, maintenance, and other departments to meet production and shipping requirements.
  • Maintain organized and production-ready die-setting stations and support SMED initiatives.
  • Complete SAP work orders and accurately document process information, quality checks, setup parameters, and production records.
  • Maintain accurate tool, equipment, and machine records.
  • Enter and maintain required information in RayPro, MES, SAP, and paper-based production logs.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and organization of machines, peripherals, tools, and work areas.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable manufacturing standards.
  • Participate in required safety training and continuous improvement activities.
  • Work overtime and weekends as required to support production needs.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college education or advanced technical coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Injection Mold Setter and/or Process Technician.
  • Previous experience with bi-injection, 2-shot, multi-shot, or multi-cavity injection molding is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience processing both hygroscopic and non-hygroscopic plastic resins.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, materials, tooling, and process parameters.
  • Experience with RJG eDART systems is preferred.
  • Master Molder® I & II certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with ERP and MES systems.
  • Experience with robots and injection molding auxiliary equipment.
  • Strong understanding of material compatibility, adhesion, sequential injection timing, and complex tooling.
  • Experience with rotary platen, stack mold, indexing mold, or transfer mold systems is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of 5S and SMED methodologies.
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
