Senior Mechanical Designer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team and contribute to the development of advanced automated manufacturing systems for the automotive industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing integrated assembly, inspection, and welding systems and complete machines from concept through implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complete mechanical systems and automated machinery using SolidWorks.
  • Design systems incorporating mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic components.
  • Perform engineering calculations, design analysis, and validation for mechanical systems and components.
  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning machinery, systems, apparatus, and mechanical components.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, controls, electrical, and project teams to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, suppliers, and internal teams regarding project requirements, technical issues, and design progress.
  • Support projects from initial concept and design through fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable engineering, safety, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Review and improve existing machine designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably in an industrial automation or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience designing industrial machinery, automated equipment, assembly systems, inspection systems, or welding systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Hands-on experience designing and integrating pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems as they relate to machine design.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, machine design, materials, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and mechanical analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
