Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead the day-to-day Human Resources function for an approximately 80-employee plastics manufacturing facility.

This is a hands-on, standalone HR leadership position responsible for the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, attendance management, performance management, compensation, HR compliance, WSIB, accommodations, and HR support for Health & Safety.

The successful candidate will be a visible and trusted presence on the plant floor, working closely with employees, supervisors, Operations, and senior management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full day-to-day HR function for the manufacturing facility.
  • Manage employee relations, including investigations, conflict resolution, coaching, progressive discipline, and difficult conversations.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for hourly, shift-based, skilled trades, production, and manufacturing positions.
  • Develop effective onboarding and retention initiatives to improve employee engagement and reduce turnover.
  • Manage attendance, absenteeism, accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Lead the performance management process and coach supervisors and managers on effective employee management.
  • Support compensation administration, wage reviews, benefits, and payroll processes.
  • Provide accurate employee and time-and-attendance information to Finance for payroll processing through ADP.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario employment legislation, including ESA, OHSA, WSIB/WSIA, Human Rights Code, and AODA.
  • Manage WSIB claims, return-to-work programs, and workplace accommodations.
  • Partner with Operations and the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) on health and safety programs, training, incident reporting, investigations, and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain practical HR policies, procedures, forms, and training programs.
  • Track workforce metrics including turnover, absenteeism, attendance, labour costs, recruitment, and safety-related HR data.
  • Provide HR guidance and coaching to supervisors and managers.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, processes, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Serve as a credible and approachable HR resource for employees and management.
  • Manage HR projects and initiatives from planning through successful completion.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, warehouse, or other shift-based environment.
  • Experience working as a standalone HR Manager or primary HR lead is strongly preferred.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation is an asset.
  • Strong experience in employee relations, recruitment, performance management, attendance management, compensation, and HR compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS, payroll, and time-and-attendance systems.
  • ADP experience is an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Excellent communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong ability to coach and support supervisors and managers.
